I am a Veteran.William Clay Mitchell, Sr.
August 12, 1921 - May 5, 2016

William Clay Mitchell, Sr., age 94 of Monticello passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born August 12, 1921 in the Plantersville Community to the late N.M. and Lois Akin Mitchell. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Faye McDaniel Mitchell and an infant brother.

He was a retired bank executive, cattle farmer, United States World War II veteran, member and elder of Monticello First Presbyterian Church and had served on numerous organizations and committees. He owned Clay’s Grocery from 1946-1968, was a previous CEO of First State Savings and Loan, a Public Relations officer for Commercial Bank and was also previous Vice-President of Union Bank and Trust Department.

Survivors include two sons, William Clay Mitchell, Jr. (Billy) and wife Rhonda and John Milton (Rusty) Mitchell and wife Karla all of Monticello; four grandchildren, John Mitchell (Dee) of Madison, MS, Joanna Rayner (Chris) of Madison, MS, Thad Mitchell (Nikki) of Monticello and Ryan McRae (Liz) of Monticello; eight-great grandchildren, John Mackey and Colton Mitchell, Guy, Christian and Brooke Rayner, Emma and Caroline McRae, and Jonathan Card.

Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery with Rev. Ryan McRae and Rev. Rick Carpenter officiating. A eulogy will be presented by John Clay Mitchell. Family visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O.
