I am a Veteran.Jim Stanley
December 3, 1929 - July 15, 2016

Jim Stanley, age 86 of Monticello, passed away Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born at home December 3, 1929 in Cominto, AR to the late Walter and Lena Stanley.

Jim went to school at the little settlement called Smokey. Hunting and fishing were his heart. He was raised by A.D. and Lexi Hicks Stanley. He joined the army at the age of 18 and was a member of United States Army serving from May 14, 1954 to April 28, 1956 as a sergeant. He was employed as a construction worker for 45 years before retiring at the age of 65. In 1953, Mr. Stanley was united in holy matrimony to Lessie Clark. They were married for 52 years. No children were born to their union. Jim accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Indianapolis, IN. After relocating to Arkansas in June 2014, he joined Gethsemane AME Church under the leadership of Rev. Debra Cooper.

Other than his parents, he was also preceded in death by his devoted wife, Lessie Stanley; six brothers, Ed, Jasper, A.D., JD, Clifton and Cay Stanley; three sisters, Caldonia Stanley, Lula Scott and Chloze Suber; and his dog, Buddy.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his nephews, James Stanley of Warren, Willie Stanley of Star City, Curtis Stanley of Panhandle, TX, Chester Stanley of Sacramento, CA, Parnell and Kenneth Stanley both of Monticello, AR, and Wozel (Alenka) Stanley of Star City; his nieces, Nancy (James) Williams, Carolyn (Alfonzo) Peer, Vera (Don) Wiley, Jewel (Odell) Davis, Cathy Ridgell, all of Monticello, Linnie (Jay) Edwards of McKinney, TX, Judy Fair and Dorothy Bilton both of California; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial to follow in Gesthsemane Cemetery. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
