Betty Wells
May 8, 1927 - January 21, 2017

Betty Tucker Browning Wells of Monticello was born on May 8, 1927 in Monroe, AR during the 1927 flood. She transitioned to the Lord on January 21, 2017 at the age of 89.

She was at the Chapel Woods Nursing Facility in Warren for a year and has been at the Woods Nursing and Rehab Facility in Monticello for almost a year. Betty was a long-time resident of Monticello and was known to many as someone who took care of the ones she loved and shared her passion for life with her family.

She was an ardent gardener, tending her vegetables and sometimes helped her husband grow thousands of tomatoes for the truck farm on their home site. She was known for her canning and preserving skills-especially her pear preserves and bread and butter pickles. She enjoyed cooking and loved feeding her family during the holidays. Her love for the outdoors led to regular fishing and camping trips since the 1960’s. Babysitting for her grandchildren and their friends gave her incredible pleasure. She also loved her annual winter trip to Memphis to visit her sisters.
In 2005 she often helped her daughter with her Pampered Pet and Medical Scrub store. She loved animals and it was a fun time for both. Betty was employed by Safeway as a checker for many years and she and her husband at the time were co-owners of Browning & Eubanks Heating and Air. She was in sales at SeArk Western Wear and Alice’s Dress Shop in Monticello. She enjoyed working retail sales because of her gift for helping people and visiting with her many friends who were customers.

She was a Christian who loved the Lord. She was saved and baptized at the age of 33 at the Second Baptist Church in Monticello.

Survivors include her husband Derwood Wells of Monticello; her daughter Dianne Browning Ward Youngblood (Bernard) of Monticello, two step-children, Elizabeth Wells Rial (Bill) of Peachtree City, GA and Ray (Bubba) Wells of Monticello; sisters, Evelyn Vanderford of Hughes, AR and Era Artz of Memphis, TN; grandchildren, Angela Ward Hood (Justin) of Austin, TX and Kristie Ward Gore (Mike) of Bryan, TX; step-grandchildren, LeaAnn McIntyre of Crossett, Lindsey Rial Taylor (Scott) of New Market, England and Chris Rial (Summer) of Houston, TX; great-grandchildren, Kennedy and Ireland Gore, Victoria and Hunter Hood; step-great-grandchildren, Nathan McIntyre and Sydney and Leighton Taylor; and is loved by many nieces and nephews from all over the United States.

She preceded in death by her parents, Grace Collins Tucker and Charles Franklin Tucker; brothers, David McDonald Tucker, Charles Bert Tucker, Roy Tucker, George Robert Tucker; sisters, Gwen Tucker Edwards and Josephine Tucker Turner.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m, March 25, 2017 at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to: Lewy Body Dementia or Arkansas Hospice of Monticello.Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
