Betty Lou McKiever
August 30, 1951 - June 22, 2010

Betty Lou McKiever, 58, of Monticello, passed away Tuesday at DeQueen Medical Center in DeQueen. She was born August 20, 1951 in Malvern. She was the daughter of the late Gene McCormick Wylie, Sr. and Audrey Marjean Walpole Wylie. Her last days were spent with her children and Grand-children who she cherished most.

She was a member of the Carthage Presbyterian Church and loved spending time with her friends and family especially her Grand-Children that brought such joy to her life. She loved helping others and would never allow anyone to try and help her.

She was graduate of McNiel High School. She then located to Little Rock, AR and was employed by The State of Arkansas Division of Opportunities Industrialization Center as a counselor.

In 1980 she married the love of her life Garel "Mac" McKiever and after 2 years of marriage and the birth of their daughter they relocated home to Monticello. Mrs. Betty then went to work for the University of Arkansas Extension Service of Drew County. She was also Manager of Town & Country Feed Supply for 13 years. She was currently employed by Arkansas Democrat Gazette. She was very active and involved in her county, district and state organizations. She previously and currently held offices and volunteered her time to Drew County 4-H, RBRA & ABRA barrel racing associations, Drew Central Booster club, Monticello Riding club and Arkansas Horseshow Association. Her biggest pride was her involvement and office held at the Drew County Fair and Rodeo Association as well as Parade Director for many years. She was also Chairman of the Southeast District Fair and Rodeo Queen Contest. She was a very proud supporter of all county sports activities as well as the University of Arkansas @ Monticello Rodeo Team.

Survivors include her husband, Garel "Mac" McKiever of Monticello; one son, Bret Lee McKiever and wife, Alydia of Lockesberg; one daughter, Stacy Lee McKiever-Janes and husband, Brandon of Lockesberg; two brothers, Ronald Dale Wylie and wife, Karen, Gene Mack Wylie, Jr. and wife, Sheryl, all of Tulip AR; one sister, Sheryl Ann Whearty and husband, Bill of Mexico, MO; five grandchildren, Breannah Linely, Mayson McKiever, Carson McKiever, Tori Janes and Braylee Janes; several nieces, nephews and many many friends.
