Ann M. Burgess

Annie Mae Andrews Burgess, age 87 of Monticello, went to be with her Lord and Savior Sunday, February 27, 2022, at her home. She was born April 22, 1934, in Green Hill (Drew County), AR to the late John Mark Andrews and Susanne Wellborn Andrews. Also preceding her in death were her paternal grandparents, Dr. Robert Henry and Emeline Everett Andrews of Drew and Ashley counties; her maternal grandparents, David E. and Annie Dearman Wellborn of Meridian, MS; six brothers, Herman, James, Lester, Ed, Dudley and Wayne Andrews; and four sisters, Bertie Stephenson, Mary (Polly) Walker, Myrtle Andrews and Susie (Judy) Lackey. Annie was the widow of David Eugene Burgess, having shared 51 years together until his death in 2010. She was a longstanding member of Pauline Missionary Baptist Church where she served as church clerk for a number of years. She led in the organization of the Missionary Baptist Student Fellowship on the A&M (now UAM) College campus during the summer of 1954. For 38 years, she was an elementary school teacher and touched the lives of numerous children in the first and fifth grades in the Lake Village and Monticello School Districts. Annie was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She had a passion for history and studied it regularly. She is survived by a brother, Henry Garland Andrews; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Her family would like to issue a special thank you to all of the ladies who cared for Ms. Annie in her final days. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Clements officiating.
