Robert Lee Lackey

Robert Lee Lackey, age 85, of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born September 11, 1925 in Caldwell County, Texas, the son of the late Oscar and Estelle Gray Lackey.
Robert was a retired electrician and a World War II Veteran who served in a tank battalion. He was in the D-Day invasion of the Normandy beaches and the move toward Germany. He was wounded in Belgium when his tank was hit by mortar fire. Of the seven men inside the tank, Robert was the only survivor.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Andrews Lackey.
Survivors are a brother, Glen Lackey of Kerrville, TX; a sister, Ruth Leyendecker of San Antonio, TX and other relatives and friends.
