Frank "Sonny" Hartness, Jr.
February 16, 1927 - August 30, 2012

Frank "Sonny" Hartness, Jr., of Monticello passed away on August 30, 2012 at the age of 85. He was born on February 16, 1927.

A lifelong resident of Drew County, Frank loved to hunt, fish, trade chickens, and solve the world's problems with his buddies at Holdcraft's Bait Shop. After a brief stint in the family pulpwood business, Frank worked at the Drew County Revenue Office and retired from the City of Monticello Water Department, reading water meters for years.

Frank was a Southern Baptist and member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Frank lost his loving wife of Opal Stephenson Hartness in March of 2003. Together they enjoyed the love of many close friends and family. They were the loving parents to their only child Steve, their beloved grandchildren, Kelly Jo, Kerry, Max, Mike and their beautiful great-grand children Makenzie and Lauren.

Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Opal; his parents, Frank and Claudia Caldwell Hartness, Sr.; his brothers and sister in laws, Ira and Louise Hartness and Horace and Vivian Hartness.

He is survived by his son and daughter in law, Frank Steven and Sara Hartness of Monticello; two grandchildren, Kelly Jo Derryberry and husband Stormy of Monticello and Kerry Hartness and wife Melissa of Cabot; two step grandchildren, Maxwell Sawyer of Conway and PFC Michael Sawyer U.S. Army; two great-grandchildren, Makenzie Derryberry and Lauren Derryberry, both of Monticello; and his sister and brother in law Ruth and Errol Miller of Little Rock, and a host of family members from Crossett and Little Rock.
