Calvin Collins was born on July 3, 1922 to the late Shumpert Ridgell (Step Father Henry L. Collins) and Eula Mae Collins in Coleman Arkansas. Preceding him in death, he had five brothers, Orceola, Lamar, Earl H., (Ethel Mae) J. D., and James Jr. (Diane). Three sisters, Janie, Velma and Emma Jean and one daughter, Alice Brooks (Clarance Sr.).

He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and later became an active member at Green Mt. Church and served in several capacities until his health begin to fail. He served as Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and usher. He was a member of The Masonic Lodge (Bartholomew Log #28) and Order of Easter Star # 64. Serving as Dean, he was an active member of the Do, Re, Me, District Singing Convention, where he was able to express himself through singing with his Light Bass/Baritone voice.

On June 9, 1944 he joined the Navy. He was snet to Great Lakes, Illinois, for basic training and then to Shoemaker, California before being shipped to Pearl Harbor. While on Treasure Island, it was discovered that his eyes were too weak for amphibious duty. Still wanting to fulfill his obligation, another job was chosen for him. He was then shipped to Pearl Harbor to begin his tour of duty for his country.
He was united in holy matrimony to Merva Dean Collins on October 1, 1960, where they reared three children. He believed in taking care of the family and made sure that the family was taught and trained about Christianity. His love and passion was being an active supporter of the church, family and community.

Calvin leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Merva Dean Collins of Monticello; two children, Alma Cavaness (Dwight) of Little Rock and Talvin Collins of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Cora William of Monticello and Irene Simmons of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, Ed Nolen (Clovern) of Monticello; two aunts, Everline Handley of Monticello and Iquila Richardson of Chicago, Illinois and a host of grand, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Merva Dean Collins and members of the family, Grief is a perfect normal response to the death of your loved one. It is an adjustment process, which will allow all of you too gradually to accept this loss. The process is the same whether you are grieving the loss of a parent, brother, sister or other significant person.
The Death of Calvin Collins from this mortal state to immortality is a great loss and it is necessary to acknowledge it not only to your self-but to others. The adjustment will be easier for all family members by feeling free in expressing your respective grief. In addition to your feelings of despair and loneliness; you have to lose control of your emotions. Painful as it is, it is part of the normal grieving process. However, there is also an intensifying of faith in Jesus Christ, which gives you sufficient inner strength to carry you through this difficult period.
