Vanessa Walker, 60 of Monticello was born December 2nd, 1955 in Wilmar. She was the daughter of Oscar James and Freddie Mae Frye. She departed this life on August 28, 2016 in Monticello.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to John Walker in March of 1999. She accepted Christ in her early childhood years. She was a woman of strong faith, the backbone of her family and a blessing to anyone who came in contact with her. When we think about Vanessa, words that come to mind are faithful, selfless, abundance of energy, bright charitable, provider and a fighter. She worked at the Monticello School District for 20 plus years and later retired in 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar James and Freddie Mae Frye and son Yustin Jordan, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, John Walker; sons, Yustin (Shemika) Jordan and Jahmad Jordan; one daughter, Angela Shaw; three sisters, Acquanetta (LeRoy) Martin, Gloria Cross and Dorisey Frye; four brothers, Oscar Frye, Jr., Calvin (JoAnn) Frye, Frankie Frye and James Frye; grandchildren, Keana Shaw, Hakeen Shaw, Jadyen Loudermilk, Autumn Jordan, JaQues Jordan, Paige Jordan and Dillion Jordan; one great-grandchild, Kyan Franklin; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow in Wilmar Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Friday night at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home. Online guestbook www.stephensodearman funeral home.
