He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and a Baptist. Damon was employed by Kellogg Brown and Root Construction for many years as a sub contract manager. He loved his job and employees and enjoyed traveling around the world meeting many co-workers. Damon "Butch" Thompson loved his family and enjoyed nature, fishing and sports. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his stepfather, John J. Roberts, his stepfather Earl McKinzie and his sister Lawanda Thompson Jarrett Gray.
Survivors include his wife, Michelle "Micki" Magee Thompson of League City, TX; one son, John J. Thompson of Olympia, WA; one stepson, Lexington Lee Smelly (Heather) of Mobile, AL; one stepdaughter, Nicole Michelle Spencer of Sugarland, TX; four step grandchildren; two uncles, Richard Tucker and Mary of Monticello and Larry Tucker and Bea of Wilmar; one nephew Jackie Jarrett of McGehee; and one niece, Debbie Clairday of Monticello and brother in law Tommy Gray of Monticello.
Funeral service will be 5:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel in Monticello, AR with burial to follow in Pleasant Springs Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
