Ralph Edward Chastain, Jr., age 81 of Monticello, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017 at his home. He was born November 8, 1935 in Rossville, GA to the late Ralph E. Chastain, Sr. and Ella Walker Chastain.

He retired from SeaArk Marine after many years of service, served in the United States Army Reserve and was of Baptist faith. His hobby was photography and he could always be found with a camera or two in his truck or hand. His interests were reading and keeping up with world news and events and listening to classical music. The two things he loved most in his life were his wife, Mildred and the Georgia Mountains.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mildred Middlebrooks Coon Chastain of Monticello; three sons, Gregory Chastain and wife Gemma of Orlando, FL, Gary Coon of Sheridan and Kim Coon of Monticello; three daughters, Tracey Herman and husband Doug of Rising Fawn, GA, Jan Coon Cockrell of Monticello and Lisa Coon of Little Rock; one sister, Jimmie Barber of Rossville, GA; two half-sisters, Sherolyn Rawley and husband Rick of San Antonio, TX and Judy Newlan and husband Ralph of Marshall, TX; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three special friends, Mike Creager, Dian Pruitt and Dawn Matthews and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery. Visitation 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday prior to service. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
