Velma Lee Jones, age 77 of Monticello, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. She was born August 4, 1941 in the Lacey community in Drew County, AR to the late Erwood Jones and Lula Durham Jones. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, James E. Jones.

She is an alumni of Drew Central and UAM, a retiree of Leisure Lodge/The Woods Nursing Home, and was for a time a substitute teacher. Velma was an avid gardener and loved growing vegetables and flowers. She was a member of the Lacey Methodist Church and on many occasion she and her family would host a night of gospel singing at their home in Monticello, at which she would play piano. Velma especially enjoyed traveling to bluegrass and gospel events.

Velma is survived by a niece, Susan Young; a nephew, Kenneth Jones; and a great nephew, James Young all from Little Rock.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial to follow in Lacey Cemetery. Visitation 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
