He was baptized at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Lomack when he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.
After graduating from Drew High School in 1955 he enlisted in the United States Navy, San Diego, CA. He served 30 years and received numerous awards, medals and retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Willie B.; five sisters, Mary, Edna, Georgia, Joyce and Linda; four brothers, Milton, Robert, Calvin and LeVester.
He leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Ronnie Bassett of Houston, TX and Bruce Richard (Minossa) of Kingston, New York; one sister, Verlester Meads of Little Rock; one brother, Cornelius Roy Bassett (Debra) of Monticello; a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and cousins; a special thanks to Mitchell Broughton and Marilyn of Monticello.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial in Oakland Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation 6:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.

Los Angeles, CA Tuesday, September 17, 2019 Willie Bassett was my grandfather and substitute father from my birth for over 34 years I know his favorite color which shows he likes , teams he roots for, which foods he likes which music he listens too and his favorite yogurt flavor at yogurt land and me and his wife my grandma never knew Ronnie Bassett existed so hard to believe he actually had a son that suddenly surfaces. New York, NY Tuesday, August 13, 2019 Willie Basset was a kind, loving grandfather with a laugh that would warm up a room. I only wish I had more time with him.
