Elbert Gene "Chicken" Ridgell, was born November 1, 1955 to the late Leon Ridgell and Thelma Gonder Ridgell of Monticello. He attended Mt. Pleasant AME during his childhood and was attending Revival Center. He attended Monticello Public School; after graduation he enlisted in the Army and served his country for about 12 years. After leaving the service, he made his home in Germany for approximately 30 years, while in Germany he worked for AT&T.

He was married to Beata Ridgell and they raised two sons, Pierra and Corey. After retirement, he moved back home to Monticello to be closer to his mother. He continued his education by attending Remington College in Little Rock and upon completion, he went to the Monticello Library daily to complete his education by taking online classes.

He is preceded in death by his father, Leon Ridgell and one brother, Leon Ridgell, Jr.

Survivors include two sons, Pierra and Corey, both of Germany; his mother, Thelma Ridgell of Monticello; one grandson of Germany; a special friend, Sharon Jones of Monticello; and a host of uncles, aunts, other relatives and friends.
