Joe Mac Chambers, 84, passed peacefully at his home, from this life into eternity, on the morning of October 11, 2019. He was born on August 17, 1935 in Monticello to his parents, Enos and Linnie Gober Chambers.

Joe was a family man that loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He also enjoyed genealogy, hunting, fishing, and watching baseball.

He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Delorious Jean Barnes Chambers, who he fell in love with at an early age. Other family includes his son, Michael Chambers currently living in Costa Rica, two daughters, Toni Dorsey (Wayne) of Bryant, Arkansas, and Teri Chambers (Michelle) of Woodlawn, Arkansas. He has two grandchildren, Nick Dorsey (Kellie) from Gallion, Alabama and Kristen Burleson (Tyler) from Jonesboro, Arkansas. In addition, he was blessed with six great-grandchildren, Willa Jo, Emmaus, Levi, Luke, and Lucy (due in January) Dorsey, and Abby Jane Burleson.

He is also survived by two sisters, Jewel Hackett from Conway, Arkansas and Glenda Henry (James) from Wylie, Texas. He also has a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Enos and Linnie Gober Chambers, a brother, Erston Chambers (Texas), and three sisters, Bea Demarco (California), Irma Peterson (California), and Edith Swan (Monticello).

Joe was in the Army Infantry in 1959, stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, and later at Fort Benning, Georgia. After an honorable discharge, he moved his family to California where he worked as a shop foreman machinist. He was a graduate of Drew Central High School and went to college at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He received his Master's degree in Education at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Joe Mac taught math and algebra at Drew Central High School for 2 years. The remainder of his teaching career, he taught at Monticello High School in classes such as General Cooperative Education and Metal Trades. He was a member of the Arkansas Education Association. He and his wife, Jean, owned and ran Barnes Grocery Store for many years. He was a member of Monticello First Assembly of God Church.

The family would like to thank Baptist Medical Center, Drew Memorial Hospital, Hospice Homecare, and his caregiver, Sofonda Turner, for the excellent care that he received the last four months of his life.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at First Assembly of God Church with burial to follow in Union Ridge Cemetery.
