Richard Michael Matthews was born on April 15, 1978, in Monticello, Arkansas to parents, Robbie Williams Matthews and Raymond Matthews. In the early morning hours on October 24, 2020, he transitioned at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia to spend eternity with our Heavenly Father.
He grew up in Monticello, Arkansas, and graduated from Monticello High School in 1997. Post-graduation, he attended The Pines Vocational Center in Hot Springs, AR, and enjoyed learning Computer Technology. Some of Richard's interests and hobbies included reading adventure books, exploring travel, listening to eclectic music, and fishing with his family.
Richard had an infectious personality. He always had a smile on his face and exuded optimism regardless of any situation. He was kindhearted, funny, and quite the jokester; often pulling pranks on his loved ones. In addition, he had an appreciation for the finer things in life: watching classic TV shows, eating homemade sweet potato pie, celebrating birthdays, and holiday gatherings. Richard was a wonderful son and loved being around his family and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his Grandmother; Ruby Matthews; Grandfathers: R.J. Matthews and Otha Williams; two Aunts, Marilyn Bell, and Mary Jean Matthews.
Cherishing his precious memories are his devoted loving Mother, Robbie Williams of Columbus, Georgia; his Father Raymond Matthews of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; his Step-Father Donald Thomas of Columbus, Georgia; Grandmother Jessie Mae Williams of Monticello, Arkansas; four Aunts, Pat (Walter) Jordan of Dermott, AR; Shelby Williams of Little Rock, AR, and Karen (Arturo Ruiz) Mercado both of Little Rock, AR; and Marilyn Matthews of Sherwood, AR; two Uncles, George (Amanda) Matthews of Monticello, AR; and Larry (Sammye) of Wilmar, AR; and a host of cousins and friends.
