Mark was preceded in death by his father Wilbur and his brother Danny Engelkes.
Mark began his career as a farmer with his father and four brothers developing his love for agriculture and the outdoors. He was an avid coon hunter in his younger years traveling hundreds of miles with his brother in search of perfect coonhounds to purchase. Mark also enjoyed riding horses. When his daughter Ashley was old enough to begin rodeoing, Mark traded in his hobbies for hers. Watching Ashley ride was one of Mark's greatest joys in life. Mark traded his four-wheel drive tractor for an iron mule and started a small logging operation until retirement. Most recently, his passion was his grandchildren and their love for rodeo.
Talking about his granddaughter Skyler and her barrel racing brought Mark great joy. He loved to take Skyler and Colton to the barn and watch them ride. Mark was a great story and joke teller. He grew the best watermelons. He loved his mama's karo nut pies. He was a cancer survivor and loved to tell people about it. He will be missed around town in all his frequent drop in spots, the Farm Store, the Donut Shop, his brother's shop, Western Sizzlin, and his daily trips to Sonic where he took Skyler and Colton to get a snack and drink.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Paula. His daughter that he adored, Ashley McKee and her husband Cody, and his grandchildren, Skyler Hill and Colton McKee, his mother Barbara Engelkes, his brothers Larry, Ricky (Kathy Lou), and David, nine nieces and nephews, and 11 great nieces and nephews. He will also be missed greatly by his nephew Nick who was his go to helper and friend.

MONTICELLO, AR Wednesday, July 21, 2021 Dear Family of Mark,I can not begin to express the sadness I feel in my heart for all of you. Mark and I were classmates, he loved telling everyone that I was a day older than him, which was not true, his birthday was the 4th and mine the 5th. In grammar school he could not wait for recess so that he could chase me all over the playground. I will miss seeing him. Please know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers.
In Christian Love,
Sharon

White Hall, AR Tuesday, July 20, 2021 I taught Mark in Math at Monticello High School in 1967. He was a good, rowdy kid that had a great personality. For some reason, he and I really hit it off. He would sometimes stay after the bell to just talk. I knew then he probably liked me. He was a good guy!Gail Kizer
Dermott, AR Monday, July 19, 2021 It's so hard to even think about Mark not being here. He was such a super guy. He and I have had so many laughs and good conversations. He really knew how to grow a good watermelon. I've shared my fig preserves with him up until several years ago when he was told not to eat sweets. I, along with a lot of other people, will really Mark.Lavera Burton
