Linda Pinkus, our wife, mother and friend passed away September 13, 2010. She was surrounded by her friends and loved ones.

She was a graduate of Monticello High School, Arkansas A&M (UAM), and got her masters degree from UALR. Her love for her school, Dermott School District, was only surpassed by the love she had for her family and friends. She pioneered the Adult Education program in the state of Arkansas, with it first being implemented in Dermott. She dedicated thirty years to the education system. She was well known for her high heels and the staccato steps that announced her presence.

She was reared on "Five Mile Hill" just north of Monticello with her sisters, Joanne, Myrna, Marcia, Sheila, and her half-brother Van and half sister Bonnell Rice. They were a close knit family enjoying a wonderful life there.

She was married to Lester Pinkus in 1965. She then moved to Dermott Arkansas. In the Delta she was well received and became well known throughout. Her dancing and generosity were the traits that she was best known for. She would overdraw her bank account often to provide coats and shoes for the students of the school, who could not afford them, and Lester would make up the difference. She was a Cub Scout den mother, member of Delta Kappa Gamma, International Society of Women Educators, and President of the Meir Chayim Temple.

Above all, she was a friend, wife, mother and grandmother. There was never a dull moment when she was around, and time spent with family was never wasted. She loved her husband, Lester, her sons, Lee and Ladd, her dear friend Patsy Newton, and her grandchildren, Peyton,Ty, Ladan, and Chloe Jo, although not necessarily in that order. She welcomed her children and would immediately ask, after pleasantries were exchanged, where the grandchildren were.

Her family was her life and she expressed that in her last words. To her husband and the friends that surrounded her she made the simple request, to honor her life with continued devotion to each other.

Dear Pinkus family....we are so sorry for the loss of Mrs. Linda. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time and the healing days to come.
  30. Sue Arnn
Mrs. Pinkus was my 10th grade English teacher, and an expert teacher, she was. As much as they tried, no student could back her into a corner. She taught much and we learned much.

I then had the privilege of working with her at Dermott Public School for several years. She was part of my support, and always faithful.

God's blessings on you, her family, during this difficult time.
  31. Jacque Bynum

  32. Bill Burchfield
    Lester, Lee, and Ladd:
Bev and I extend our deepest sympathies to you and share in your grief during this time. I worked with Linda for years and was amazed how her small stature was offset so well with her huge heart for kids. She loved her school and her students and was so respected by them and her co-workers. I was always amazed at how that little woman could get control of a classroom full of the biggest football players simply by walking into the room. Dermott High School was better because she was there, but I know Heaven is better because she is there. Goodnight, dear lady. Rest in much deserved peace.
  33. Sherry Cox Roark
