Verlie Chapman Williams, 92 of Monticello, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010 in Little Rock. She was born February 1, 1918 in Conway County, AR.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Luther Bert Chapman and one son, Ashton Chapman, was a homemaker and a member of Lacey Assembly of God Church. She was the daughter of the late Walter Gasaway and Iva Lee Bailey Gasaway.

Survivors include her husband, Lee Roy Williams of Dumas; four sons, Walter Stinson Chapman and wife, Norma of Monticello, Gene Allen Chapman and wife, Anna of Del Rio, TX, Bert Laron Chapman and wife, Peggy of Pine Bluff and Michael Paul Chapman and wife, Jane of Coulterville, IL; two daughters, Wanda Rose Hurt of Jackson, TN and Gina Diane Sellers and husband, Bob of North Little Rock; one brother, Lonnie Gasaway of Petit Jean Mountain, AR; thirteen grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Our mother is well known for her faithfulness to God, His church and her powerful prayers. Her life was a testimony to Jesus. She shared 50 years of life and love with our wonderful father, and was devoted to her children and their spouses. That example of love and commitment has been a tremendous blessing to all of us. She had a special love for her grandchildren and is adored by all of them. She knew how to play and influenced each and every one of them for the good. She adored her brothers and sisters and has left us her treasured memories of them and life on Petit Jean Mountain, where they were all born. She was a special friend of many and loved to travel, cut up, laugh, and sing. She was an accomplished gradener and a cheerful giver of the fruit of her labors. She cooked many delicious meals for large crowds in her home, and no one was turned away. She shared a special love with her husband, Lee Roy, with whom she shared happy, joyous times together until 2005 when she became ill. For that we will always be grateful. Like her own Papa, Mom would never say goodbye, but rather...So long, I'll see you again.

    Chapman Family,
"Aunt Verlie" was a part of the Manes clan for as long as I can remember. The most fond memories I have from my childhood is the times our family visited Aunt Verlie's house in Lacey. Ozment's Bluff was beautiful and we had such fun swimming in the clear water (clear at that time) and burying each other in the sand!!! Fishing in the pond behind the house was a blast!! Playing with Penny and being so close to all of you as a little girl!!!! Aunt Verlie was always my grandmother's (Oma Lee) BEST FRIEND and my Aunt Verlie!! I know this is a sad time for you all and I am sorry for your loss. I am also very glad I had the opportunity to be a part of your sweet family as I know my whole family is as proud!! Prayers to you, but know Aunt Verlie is with Jesus--absolutely no doubt about that!!

From my heart and my entire family, The Manes family
  22. Jean Huggins Wingert
    May God Bless Verlie's family

  24. Carole (Doss,Johns) Rushing
Walter, Norma, Gene & Anna; please accept my sympathy for your great loss. We all know it is Heaven's gain. May the Grace of God shine upon you to guide you through this difficult time. You will be in my heart and prayers. Since I left Green Hill (and Drew Chiropractic Center) I have missed seeing Gene, Anna and Norma and have seen Walter on rare occasion such as when one of my brothers died. I miss the contact with all of you and hearing about your Mom. You have such a beautiful, wonderful legacy to live up to. Please know that she nor you will not be forgotten. Carole (Doss)
