Alexandria, VA Tuesday, October 3, 2023 Leslie and I shared a similar journey from the moment we met during our first interview for the EVMS PA program. We didn't get in the first time, but we both persevered and met again during our second interview, forging a friendship that would mean so much to me.One of my most cherished memories with Leslie was when I visited her in LA before PA school started. Despite not knowing me well at the time, she selflessly offered her bed for me to sleep in for a week while she took the couch. We even went for a walk around her neighborhood on Halloween in 2017, dressed in funny costumes, sharing laughter and stories.
Leslie's warmth, constant smile, and unwavering optimism were truly contagious. During school we became neighbors, study partners, and she would even occasionally watch my dog and cat when I had to leave town, just as she adored her own two cats, especially Peanut, who brought her so much joy.
Our conversations ranged from school stresses to family, politics, and life in general. Leslie felt like an older sister; she always called me "bro" and always playfully joked that I was her little brother.
The last text I received from Leslie was about her new job, how happy and excited she was to find a great team to work with and how well she was feeling. I often admired Leslie for her resilience in overcoming adversity on her path to becoming a PA, and it's bittersweet to know that she finally found a job that allowed her to be happy while helping others, even if it was for a short time.
I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear of her passing. It's especially difficult to know that I only found out recently, and I feel profound regret for not staying in touch or being there for her at her most challenging moments. Leslie will always hold a special place in my heart, and I'll cherish the moments and conversations we had together. My thoughts are with her family as they mourn the loss of such an incredible person.
