Charles LaVaughn ''Bitty'' Thurman, age 90 of Monticello, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Belleview Estates Nursing and Rehab in Monticello. He was born April 19, 1933, in Lacey, AR to the late J.C. ''Collie'' Thurman and Bonnie Hackney Thurman.
He was a retired construction worker, United States Army Veteran and a Baptist. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Carr Thurman; an infant son, Shane Thurman; and six brothers, Adrian Thurman, Dobbie Thurman, Laron ''Wink'' Thurman, Marshall Thurman, Keith Thurman and Jimmy Carr Thurman.
He is survived by two daughters, Trenia Martin and husband Kevin of Lacey and Karla Maxwell of North Little Rock; two step-children, Michael Kellum of Memphis, TN and Katherine ''Kat'' Lyon of Monticello; six grandchildren, Malorie Gossman and husband Mack of Monticello, Drake Martin of Hamburg, Brandon Lyon, Dr. Rachel Harrison, Rebecca Shaw and Ryan Kellum; two great grandchildren, Ellorie ''Elie'' Gossman of Monticello who was the ''light of his life'' and Koen Martin of Hamburg; two twin sisters, Maye Carter of Crossett and Faye Wilhite of Lacey; one brother, Lamar Thurman and wife Gloria of Crossett; a host of nieces and nephews; along with a special cousin, Kerry Jean Hackney.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2023, at Lacey Cemetery with Rev. Devin Burns officiating. There will be a visitation one hour preceding the graveside service from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Mack Gossman, Bobby Ray Thurman, Danny Ray Thurman, Todd Thurman, Robert Estelle and Justin Thurman.
