Queen Etta Green

Queen Etta Green, a cherished homemaker, a versatile woman of numerous talents, and devoted wife, peacefully departed this life on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 3:00 pm, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 77.

After valiantly battling for nearly six months, Queen endured profound suffering until she gracefully transitioned from this earthly realm. Surrounded by her loving family, she maintained her dignity, grace, and respect until she found solace in the embrace of her Heavenly Father.

Born on December 16, 1946, in Monticello, AR, Queen Etta was the daughter of the late Otis Goodman, Sr. and the late Leona Matthews Goodman. At the tender age of 14, she encountered her ambitious and talented late husband, James Edward Green, Sr. Their union in 1964 marked the beginning of a remarkable journey, celebrating 58 years of marriage until James, Sr.'s passing on November 30, 2022.

Queen Etta possessed a quiet yet inquisitive spirit with a deep reverence for the Word of God. Embracing her faith at the age of 16, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized in 1962 in Greenville, Mississippi at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith. Until her heavenly departure, she remained steadfast in her devotion to the church's teachings now under the current administration of Pastor Bishop Omega.

Graduating from Drew High School in 1964, Queen Etta's fondness for Home Economics, taught by the late Mrs. Maddie Middleton, and her involvement in the cheer squad were notable. Following her graduation, she embarked on her lifelong vocation as a homemaker and loving partner to James Green, Sr.

While she initially pursued studies in Psychology at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, she discontinued her education after completing her sophomore year. Gifted with her hands, Queen Etta excelled in cooking, canning, baking, and sewing. And one of her favorite pastimes was watching wrestling. Her green thumb extended to her passion for nurturing beautiful flowers, while her entrepreneurial spirit thrived in endeavors such as the renowned Green's BBQ Hut, where her signature Queen's Best BBQ sauce garnered widespread acclaim.

Queen leaves behind to cherish her memories: Three daughters: Brenda Green (Atlanta, GA), Sharon Green (Philadelphia, PA), and Angela (Todd) Rogers (Conway, AR); two sons: James Green Jr. (Monticello, AR), Steven (Tiffany) Green (Wilmington, DE); and two bonus sons Wayn'a Green (Dumas, AR), and Jeremy Mitchell (Chicago, IL); Seven sisters: Leola Scoggins (Little Rock, AR), Mary Jean Washington (L.C.), Margaret Ridgell, Bettye Gragg (Larry, Sr.), Nettie Gardner, Hazel James, Sandra Witherspoon, all of Monticello, AR. Two brothers: Jerry Goodman (Martha) Fountain Hill, AR, Otis Goodman, Jr. (Monticello, AR) seven grandchildren: Brianna Jackson, Keanu Green, Christin Rogers, Davion Green, Amora Green, Pierce Green, Carmen Rogers; and one great-grandchild, Ashlyn Jackson; and a host of loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, family, and friends that are too many to list. But know that she loved them all.

In addition to her parents, Queen Etta is preceded in death by her sister Gladys Goodman and brother James Goodman. Her memory lives on in the hearts of all who were touched by her unwavering love, kindness, and indomitable spirit.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 1:00"2:00 p.m. in the Stephenson-Dearman Chapel. Celebration of Life services will follow at 2:00 p.m. You can sign Queen Etta's guestbook here on her page.
