He was a retired Arkansas Highway Department employee. James enjoyed tinkering in his shop, building things with his tools and watching the news, Andy Griffith, Dragnet and Amos & Andy. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Joann Steele; his second wife, Edith Louise Brixie Steele; children, Tony Frigault, James A. Tate, Steven M. Tate and Tony R. Tate; three brothers, Andrew, Richard and Chester Steele; and one sister, Annie Mae Steele.
Survivors include his children, Edith Marie Steele of Star City, Marie Rodela, Anita Halbert, Linda Pruitt, Mary G. Murphy, David E. Tate, Paul Tate, Paula L. Trotter and Deborah L. Carrington; along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Saline Cemetery in Wilmar, AR. You can sign James' guestbook registry on this page.
