Gladys Mae Akin Cox, age 81 of Monticello, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Gardner Nursing Home in Star City, AR. She was born December 5, 1942, in California to the late Fletcher Akin and Veronica Sauklis Akin.

She was the widow of Tommy Cox and a member of Pauline Missionary Baptist Church. Above all, Gladys loved the Lord first and her family was a close second. She also enjoyed going to the beach, flowers, and feeding and watching the birds. She loved gathering her family together and created a tradition of cooking Sunday dinner every week. Having become a certified respiratory therapist later in life, she loved taking care of her patients and was present in the delivery room for the births of at least two grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She retired in 2015, so she could keep one of the great-grands, finishing her working career with her favorite job ever.

Gladys is survived by three sons, Gene Cox and wife Judy of Vilonia, Chris Cox and wife Priscilla of Monticello and Phillip Cox of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Shelly Rabb and husband Ward of Monticello; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; brothers, Jim Akin and wife Wendy of Tallahassee FL and John Akin and wife Kathy of Gulf Shores AL; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 28, 2024, at Stephenson Dearman Chapel with Rev. Rob Leonard and Jim Eoff officiating. There will be a visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in Campground Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Rabb, Cole Cox, Skylar Jackson, Aaron Dixon, Mike Reynolds, Dakota Hogue, and Carlton Talley. You can sign Mrs. Gladys' guestbook registry on this page.
