She was the widow of Cheslie Avitts, a retired sales clerk and a Baptist. She was the daughter of the late Herman Johnson and Effie Baker Johnson and was preceded in death by one son, Gilbert Avitts, three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Gary L. Avitts and wife, Judy of Bearden and Stephen Avitts and wife, Debbie of Springdale; one daughter, Judy Walthall and husband, Johnny of Fountain Hill; a daughter-in-law, Mary Avitts of Oklahoma City, OK; two sisters, Mary Belle Johnson of Memphis, TN and Mildred Brown of Rockwall, TX; a sister-in-law, Ernestine Miles of Rochester, Michigan; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
