Marjorie Mae Ingram Bond, age 90 of Monticello passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011 at her home in Monticello. The daughter of the late Benjamin Alexander Ingram and Florence Mae Rogers Ingram, she was born February 1, 1921, in Monticello, AR.

She was a retired music instructor, longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Monticello and was the first female member of the Monticello Rotary Club. Mrs. Bond was a graduate of Monticello High School and Arkansas A&M College (Now UAM) where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. She was a former homecoming queen at both Monticello High School and Arkansas A&M College.

She then obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and also attended the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music where she was working on her Masters degree. Mrs. Bond taught at both the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville's Music Department and Monticello High School.

She began playing music for the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello when she was only 12 years old. She later played for the First Baptist Church for many years and has played the organ at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home for four generations of the Stephenson-Dearman family dating back to the early 1930's.

Mrs. Bond was the recipient of the Arkansas State Music Teachers Association's Teacher Of The Year Award in 1987 and the University of Arkansas at Monticello Alumni Association's Achievement and Merit Award in 1992, along with numerous other music awards and achievements throughout the years. Her warm smile and patient manner have endeared her to scores of young people over the years as she has touched the lives of so many.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Elza Clifton Bond, Jr. of Monticello.

    Mrs. Bond was one of the sweetest people I have ever known. My mother thought so much of her as well, and I am sure they have been reunited in Heaven. In fact, if Heaven has a Music Club, they are no doubt both involved.

    Mrs. Bond has always had a special place in my heart!She taught me many things about music and the love of it. I have missed hearing her play and now know that there is a Grand Piano loaded with gold being played in heaven. Her talent and her love of teaching will reach on for many years.
