Gerald J. Serigne, age 62 of Monticello, formerly of New Orleans, LA passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 at UAMS in Little Rock. He was born April 8, 1949 in New Orleans, LA to the late Joseph J. Serigne, Jr. and Ida Robin Serigne. He was also preceded in death by a son, Lonnie J. Serigne and a sister, Sandra Alfonso.

He was a welder at different ship yards in Louisiana and was a Catholic. Mr. Serigne was born and raised in St. Bernard, LA. He and his family moved to Monticello in 2005 as a result of Hurricane Katrina. They did not intend on staying but they fell in love with Monticello due to the kindness shown them by its people.

Going through the very difficult experience of losing everything they had brought them closer together as a family and strengthened their faith in God. Patricia, Gerald's wife, said that they have been very proud to now call Monticello their new "home". She wants everyone to know how much she appreciates the special people of Monticello for what they did for her and her family. A few of these she wanted to mention are Tony and Mary Rodgers, Doyle and Shirley Rodgers for giving them a place to stay, Andy and April Davis for their kindness, Keith Gates, Phil Chandler and Bill Wells who were like brothers to him and to Wal Mart for their kindness.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Torneo Serigne of Monticello; two sons, Adam J. Russell of Monticello and Don P. Russell, Jr. of Chalmette, LA; two brothers, Neil Serigne and Kimbo Serigne both of St. Bernard, LA; one sister, Debra Perrin of Slidell, LA; a grandson and two granddaughters, Camron, Niah and Chloe Russell, all of Monticello; a daughter-in-law, Jessica Russell of Monticello; and several other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends back in Louisiana.

I know it's been a year but I just happened upon your obit this morning. I had no idea of your passing. It's been many years since I've seen you but I want you and your family to know that even after all these years your kind soul has left an impression on my life. It's rare that we come across someone who, although we lose contact with, remains a positive energy that becomes embedded in the spirit of who we are. Your presence is surely missed in this world. Peace to you, your family & friends.

Jerald was more of a father to me than my real father ever was. I use to get made as a child over the things that he would say and do. The simple things, like how he corrected me and how hard and strict he was with me. I never knew then why he was so tough on me. Now I see that he was tough on me out of love adn that he was teaching me to grow to be a great man. He was trying to be the father that I never had and I want you to know Jerald, that I may not have seen it back then but I see it now and I love you for it all. I know that you are in a better place now ...a place where you can hunt all day and night without restrictions. I love you and you will always be in my heart. Rest In Peace Dad and tell Lonnie we all say Hello.
