He was a farm worker and welder, and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hillie Cleo Layton and Pearly Mae Dunnum Layton.
Survivors include; five sons, Michael Layton and John Layton both of California, Ricky Layton and David Layton both of Missouri, and Jerry Layton, of St. Louis Missouri; three daughters, Rebecker Layton of Monticello, Patti Layton and Penny Layton both of Minnesota; three sisters, Lena Bartholomew and Dorothy McDaniel both of Monticello, and Dolly Layton of Star City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
