My heart was saddened to hear the news of Mrs. Chase's passing. I literally grew up in the halls and classrooms of Monticello High School. From the time I was a small child coming to the office with my dad until the time I graduated from high school, Mrs. Mary Chase was a mainstay. An entire generation will associate the MHS library with Mary Chase. She was a wonderful person with a great personality and sense of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her. She and many other MHS faculty and staff members helped raise me, and shaped who I am today. I will never forget Mrs. Mary Chase.

  16. MOREE WILKINSON BARANSKI
My prayers and condolences to to Tim and family on the loss of your mother and my dear friend from childhood in Wilmar. Our prayers go out to the extended Bailey family in their loss. Mary Agnes and I were best of friends all during grammar and high school and shared each others company, secrets, joys, sorrows and aspirations each and every day during those long ago days of the 1930, 40's and 50's. While Mary Agnes stayed put and made a wonderful life for herself and loving attentive husband, David, I left and moved to different locations. It was such a pleasure when I visited Wilmar and Monticello to relive our old friendship and days gone by. I heard the bell toll, did it toll for me? No, it tolled for a loved one I long to see. Good bye Mary Agnes. I love you.

I will always cherish the Honor, Integrity, compassionate humility of Mrs. Mary Bailey Chase. Entering Monticello High School in 1965 as the first of African Americans during the initial phase of the Freedom of Choice Initiative Integration of the Public Schools, Mrs. Chase in the midst of those challenging days of transition maintained a degree of integrity and compassion that did not compromise her conservative par excellence demeanor. For Four Years she was a role model entity of character and professionalism I will always cherish and to her family I am positive Death is not a Blind Alley that is leading her into a state of nothingness, but an open door that leads her to eternal Life with Jesus Christ, for she truly portrayed and demonstrated the character and statues of the Almighty God.
