Preston Earl Carter, 75, of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at his home in Monticello. He was born April 8, 1934 in Fountain Hill, AR.

He was a heavy equipment operator, carpenter and a Baptist. He was the son of the late Johnny Carter and Myrtle Murphy Carter and was preceded in death by one brother, Alvin Murphy and one grandson, Chris Carter.

Survivors include his wife, whom he married July 1, 1994, Edith Sharp Piper Carter of Monticello; three sons, Dennis Carter and Larry Carter, both of Monticello and Carl Carter of Scott, AR; three daughters, Wanda St.John of Star City, Debbie Bennett of Monticello and Ellen Henley of Mabelvale, AR; two step sons, Harvey Piper of Monticello and Shane Piper of Haskell; one brother, Calvin Murphy of Monticello; one half brother, Johnny Frank Carter of McArthur; two sisters, Minnie Ruth Graves of Monticello and Alpha Brown of Arkadelphia; one half sister, Joan Pelton of Conroe, TX; a special caregiver, Beverly Cheshire; sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
