William R. “Mr. Bill” Barnes, age 80, of the Green Hill community, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born July 26, 1934 in Drew County to the late Edward A. Barnes and Sally LaFoon Barnes.
He was a retired department manager with Burlington Industries with 43 years of service. Mr. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He was loved very much by all of his former Burlington Industries employees. He was a member of Second Baptist Church for 60 years where he served as a Deacon for many years, taught the Men’s Sunday School class for many years and also served on various church committees. He was also preceded in death by a son, Joe Ed Barnes and a daughter-in-law, Niki Barnes.
Survivors include his wife, Mavis Worbington Barnes of Monticello; one son, Richard Barnes of Monticello; one daughter, Karen Barnes of Little Rock; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Barnes of Monticello; three sisters, Janet Lawton of Russellville, Margaret Ann Graves of Monticello and Bernice Waldrip of Forney, TX; one grandson, Josh Barnes of Monticello; two granddaughters, Jade Beer and husband, Jason of Monticello and Jessica Storm and husband John of Monroe, LA; five great grandchildren, Simon, Sydney, John Michael, Charlee and Macee.
