Robert Lafayette Deal, 83, of Monticello, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2009. He was born September 20, 1926 in Wilmar, AR, the son of the late Homer Deal and Ladelle Higgins Deal.

He was a retired carpenter, school teacher and a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Nolan Deal, two brothers, one sister, one granddaughter and two great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Janette Stephenson Deal of Monticello; six daughters, Gail Howell and husband, Bentley of Pearl River, LA, Linda Richard of Nederland, TX, Sandra Jett and husband, Jack of Jasper, TX, Carolyn Lucas and husband, Tim of Nederland, TX, Bobbie Deal of Conway, AR and Shelia Engelkes of Monticello; one brother, Eugene "Chick" Deal of Norman, OK; one sister, Julia Semon of New Franklin, MO; fourteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
