Homer Lee Brantley, age 92, of Eufaula, Oklahoma passed away Saturday January 23, 2010 at Pleasant Valley in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Born 5 July 1917 in Drew County, AR, he is the son of the late William and Mamie (Champion) Brantley.
He retired from the Santa Fe Railroad 15 August 1978 after 33 years of dedicated service, before the railroad he worked as a taxi driver, mule team logger and he worked for the Conservation Corps (CC Camps) in Arkansas.
He was born and reared in Drew County Arkansas and was able to complete the third grade before having to help the family full time share-cropping and cutting cross ties so the family could plow out a living. Around age 15 he started driving a taxi in Monticello for a few years and later he went to work for the Conservation Corps clearing trees out for fire breaks and to allow access for the power lines to go through. Then he caught a train to New Mexico and hired on with the railroad, he made several moves before settling down in Shattuck, Ok where he retired from the railroad and later moved to Eufaula, OK near the lake. He was preceded in death by wife, Sue and eight siblings.
Survivors include his daughter Brenda English and husband, John Edd, of Jarrell, TX; four sons, Homer W. Brantley and wife, Suzanne, of Amarillo, TX; Jimmy L. Brantley and wife ,Happy, of Yantis, TX; Randall K. Brantley and wife, Cecilia, of Eufaula, OK; Scott J. Brantley and wife, Paula, of Hot Springs, AR; three sisters, Elsie King of Little Rock, Verdel Halsey and Kathleen Rawls of Monticello, AR; fourteen grandchildren, many great and great great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends
