James Benjamin (J.B.) Smith, Jr., 71, of Monticello, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010 at his home. He was born December 23, 1938 in Monticello.
He was the owner of Smith Motors and a member of Oak Grove Assembly of God Church in Monticello. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, a charter member of Fincher Deer Camp, loved playing cards and spending time with his family. He was the son of the late James Benjamin Smith, Sr. and Ardie Mae Chisom Smith and was preceded in death by his step-mother, Grace McGough Smith; one half-sister, Hazel Bell and one-half brother, Herman Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Nelda Carol Barnes Smith of Monticello; four daughters, Julie West and husband, Jim of Monticello, Tammy Martin and husband, Jack of Azle, TX, Jayce Gray and husband, Ted of Monticello; Kristin Smith of Jonesboro, AR; one sister, Addis Ellis of Monticello; one brother, Joe Smith of Little Rock, AR and one half-sister, Helen Chaney of Bastrop; ten grandchildren, Jade Ross and husband, Zack, Jamie Rawls and husband, Jeff, and Jacob West, all of Monticello, Tori Martin, Timothy Dufrene, Trent Dufrene, Rachel Adamson, Jonathan Martin, Jaclyn Martin, all of Azle, TX and Ian Bergeron of Jonesboro, AR; two great grandchildren, Jaxon Rawls and Halle Ross, both of Monticello; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
