Marzee McGough Brookings
October 12, 1916 - April 13, 2019

Marzee McGough Brookings, age 102, died Saturday, April 13, 2019 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. She was born October 12, 1916 in Monticello, Arkansas. She was a tomboy who loved to climb trees and especially enjoyed school, graduating from Monticello High School in 1934. She met George Wilbur Brookings at a Civilian Conservation Corps dance, and they married on New Year’s Eve 1935. They were married 60 years.

Early in their marriage, they lived in El Paso, Texas where he delivered milk for Borden and she worked in a five and dime store. They returned to Arkansas and settled in Crossett, owning the Brookings Furniture Store in partnership with Wilbur’s brothers, and raising their two daughters. As a couple, they danced together and in later years fished together.

Marzee lived in a way that made everyone around her aspire to be a better person. She was a strong woman of faith. She believed in the value of hard work, seldom sitting still. She was truly generous and kind. Her laugh would brighten any room. Her greatest joy was her family, helping take care of practically every child that came along. She enjoyed many hobbies in her long life including golfing, bowling, painting, reading, crocheting, gardening, and most recently bingo. She was the best grandma anyone could ever have.

Marzee was preceded in death by her parents Jerry Marvin and Lela Ann (Chapman) McGough, her husband, daughters, Roxie Gale Brookings Crow and Sandra Lynn Brookings Willis, an infant son Don Wilbur Brookings, and five siblings.

Remembering Marzee with love are her four grandchildren Kim Crow (Mark) Sheaner of Mountain Home, AR, Mark (Melani) Willis of Mountain View, AR, Karen Crow (Jamie) Erschen of Plano, TX, and Rick (Melissa) Willis of Mountain View, AR; eleven great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; her sister Louise McGough Funderburg of Monticello, AR; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Marzee will be Thursday, April 18, 9:30am – 10:30am, with a graveside service following at 11:00am at Oakland Cemetery in Monticello, AR.. Arrangements by Stephenson-Dearman.com. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
