Mary Emma Goyne Turner, age 83 of Eudora, AR, passed away Monday, October 7, 2019, at Arkansas Hospice-St. Vincent's in Little Rock, AR. She was born February 29, 1936 in Collins, AR to the late James Preston Goyne and Lona Kemp Goyne. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two sisters, Kathleen Gossman and Barbara Jean Goyne; four brothers, Winfred McAllister, Floyd McAllister, James Goyne and Van Caroll Goyne.
She was a retired City Treasurer for the Cities of Anaheim and Fullerton, CA and was member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Village, AR where she was a very devoted Catholic and blessed devotion to her Blessed Mother Mary. She served as President of the Treasurer's Association of the United States and Canada and also sat on several additional boards as well such as being the silver-haired legislator for the Area Agency and the Board of New Beginnings.
Mrs. Turner was the first woman to hold the office of Chicot County Judge in Chicot County, AR and was an Administrative Aide to County Judge Zeiman and the Eudora City Mayor. She held a Masters Degree from the University of Hard Knocks as "she would laughingly say." Her son, Johnny always referred to his mother as the "Billion Dollar Mother."
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Sylvester Alphons Turner of Eudora; two daughters, Jaime Denise Harper of Broken Arrow, OK and Vanessa Kaye Sipes and Stanley of Panama City Beach, FL; two sons, John Preston Turner of Mountain Home and Mark Andrew Turner of Kilbourne, LA; an adopted daughter, Jennifer Curran of CA; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kristi, Matthew, Melissa, Christopher, Joseph "Joey", Kayden and Kayli; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Our Lady of the Catholic Church in Lake Village with burial to follow in Collins Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Bishop-King Funeral Home in Lake Village. Arrangements by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home of Monticello.
