Willie Mae Brooks-Foster was born May 27, 1944, in Wilmar, AR to the late Eddie Lee Brooks and Jonnie Q. Gordon–Brooks. Willie Mae was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 27, 2019.
She was led to the Lord by her parents at an early age. As a member of the Greater Shady Grove AME Church of Wilmar, Willie Mae was known for picking up her friends to attend Sunday service and church programs. She left Wilmar as a young lady to live in St. Louis, MO, with her Aunt Rita and Uncle John to later move to the big city, Chicago, IL, where she raised her two daughters, Tia- LaTonya and Monica, whom she lovingly referred to as “My girls.”
After retiring from United Airlines, Willie Mae returned to her home state of Arkansas, fell in love with her childhood friend, Charles Foster, to which she was married to for 20 years and welcomed into the Foster family.
Willie Mae will be remembered for her kindness, gentle spirt and her smile for everyone she met. She was fondly called Mae-Mae by her nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents, Willie Mae was also preceded in death by her sisters, Othello Polk, Florence Clifton, Marvadeen Pruitt and Erla Mae Johnson; and her brothers, Howard and Riley Brooks.
Willie Mae leaves to cherish her memories, her daughters, Tia- Latonya (Harvey) Baker, Monica Letrese (Van Dyke) Watkins; her grandchildren, Courtney Brooks, Brandon Watkins, Ryan Briggs, Quentin Fields, Donovan Traywick; her brothers, Rev. Robert (Dorothy) Brooks and Wiley Brooks; her sister Joann Williams; and nephew, Robert Stamps, who both took care of Willie Mae in her last year; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial to follow in Wilmar Cemetery. Visitation 5-7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Online guestbook www.stephensondearman.com.
