Austin Blake Morgan, age 20 of Monticello, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LA. He was born October 12, 1999 in Monticello, AR to James W. Morgan, Jr. and Stephanie Knight Morgan.
He was an engineering student at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA, employed with 2High Trampoline Park in Ruston and was of the Baptist faith. He was a 2018 graduate of Monticello High School where he was an outstanding athlete and graduated with distinguished honors. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Margaret Knight, Janice Morgan and Laura Morgan; his grandfather, Jake Knight and nephews Brantley (Horn) Morgan and Gunnar (Henry) Morgan.
Survivors include his parents, James W. Morgan, Jr. and Stephanie Knight Morgan of Monticello; two brothers, Anthony Morgan and Jessie Morgan both of Monticello; one sister, Taylor Smith and husband Dexter of Monticello; his fiancé, Kimberly Toth of Ruston; two nephews, Hayden Davis and Ryan Morgan; three nieces, McKenzie Armstrong, Gracie Smith and Harleigh Smith; his extended family at 2High Trampoline Park; his grandfather, James Morgan of Monticello; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Austin Morgan was an indescribable man. We all know how well-rounded he has always naturally been. Whether it be about sports, academics or showing us how selfless and caring he could be toward others. Austin was driven and headstrong that allowed him to achieve many things during his short time here with us. During high school, he completed the engineering program at the OEC School and was a distinguished honor graduate. These achievements meant a lot to him but not as much as his achievements on the Monticello Football Field where he was the recipient of the "Harvey Scholarship", "Burlsworth Award" along with many others.
At Louisiana Tech University, his engineering project even got awarded first place at the Engineering Expo. Austin worked hard to receive these awards though many times he told me he deserved none of them. Austin always believed he could have pushed harder. Though he is no longer with us I can only imagine what he would have accomplished. That's why though we are all facing and trying to deal with such a hard loss, Austin would have wanted us to push hard through this time. He loved so many and it's important we return the love by giving him a good view from heaven by loving one another during this trying time.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2020 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial to follow in Union Ridge Cemetery. Visitation 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.
