Gwendolyn Haisty Stanford, age 83 of Selma, passed away Friday, February 21, 2020, at her home. She was born September 7, 1936, in Selma to the late Jesse Brooks Haisty and Inez Barrett Haisty.
She married Owen David Stanford on June 17, 1956 and they had two daughters, Phyllis and Lesley. They built their family home in Selma. Being a woman of many capabilities, she held several clerical positions, the last being compliance officer at Commercial Bank in Monticello. She was also a certified public secretary. She loved to read, crochet, do word searches and play the piano, which she did for church services for many years. In her later years, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Monticello.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Owen David Stanford; her father and mother-in-law, Charlie Glenn Stanford and Lillian Beatrice Hossfeld Stanford; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Haisty and Doris Taylor; four brothers-in-law, Bill Grant, Roy Stanford, Carol Stanford and Glenn Stanford; and a niece, Donna Massanelli.
Gwen is survived by her daughters, Phyllis (Towny) Mosley and Lesley (James) Robertson; four grandchildren, Stan (Courtney) Mosley, Kaitlyn Walthall, Kristen (Matthew) Weigand and Lainey Walthall; two great-grandsons, Lleyton Weigand and Tate Mosley; one brother, Barry Haisty; one sister, Linda (Gene) Wisdom; a brother-in-law, Paul (Betty Lee) Stanford; two sisters-in-law, Betty Stanford and Florence Henderson; a host of nieces and nephews; friends, Martha Williams and Linda Daniels; as well as her little dog, Charlie.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2020, at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel officiated by Rev. Dennis Dodson. A short family visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Selma Cemetery. Online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.
