Mrs. Carolyn Inez Allen Brown, age 83 of Monticello, passed away Friday, June 19th, 2020, at the Woods Nursing and Rehab in Monticello. She was born March 1, 1937, in Drew County, AR to the late Andrew “Andy” and Velma Webb Allen. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Joe Brown; and her mother and father-in-law, G.A. and Maureen Rogers Brown.
Carolyn was a graduate of the 1955 class of Monticello High School and a lifelong member of Monticello Church of Christ. After graduating from the Draughon School of Business in Little Rock, Carolyn returned to Monticello to begin her career in banking at Union Bank. She would soon move to Commercial Bank and work there until 1977 when she made the move to public service and a career as an elected official. She was first elected as the Drew County treasurer in 1977 and continued in this capacity until her retirement in 2000. She was civic-minded and had a great love of serving the people of Monticello. So after her official retirement, she served as an elected Monticello City Alderman from January 2005 until January 2018. Mrs. Brown also enjoyed involvement in the Daughters of the American Revolution and was twice Regent of Colonel David Love DAR Chapter.
Carolyn Brown had many talents; at the top of the list were her entertaining antics that brought so many people joy and laughter. She was a devoutly loyal wife, mother, mother-in-law, and friend.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her sons, Blair Brown and his wife Stephanie and Anthony Brown and his wife Jill; two granddaughters, Maggie and Kate Brown; two grandsons Joe William and Tye Brown; and family and friends whom she cherished.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Oakland Cemetery, Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.
Her family wishes to thank all who provided her with dedicated care over the past few years, especially Dr. Jeff Reinhart & staff, the staff at Grand Manor, Drew Memorial Hospital, The Woods and Hospice Care. A special thank you to her helpers: Sofonda Turner, Stephanie Miller, Tracy Rawls, Jeannie Jones, Angela Thompson, and Pam McEowen.
