Gerald E. Calhoun, age 75 of the Green Hill Community in Drew County, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at his home. He was born April 6, 1945, in Wilmar, AR to the late A. L. Calhoun and Thelma Miles Calhoun.
He was a retired pipeliner and heavy equipment operator, United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and was a member of Wilmar Baptist Church. He was a member of the Wilmar Hunting Club and Pipeliner’s Union Local 624 in Jackson, MS. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Lissa Calhoun Pierce; a brother, Johnny Calhoun; and a sister, Peggy Calhoun Lasiter.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jo Beth Jolley Calhoun of Green Hill; one son, Jeremy Calhoun and wife Jennifer of Wilmar; two brothers, Ralph Calhoun and wife Lois of Monticello and Jim Calhoun and wife Diane of Wilmar; four sisters, Wanda West of Warren, Barbara Beaty and husband Al of Monticello, Sandra Parker of Woodlawn and Judy Tipton and husband Lynn of Greenbrier; six grandchildren, Codie Martin, Makenzie Pierce, Mallory Clavett, Cagan Calhoun, Phillip Stephenson and Josh Pierce; and one great grandchild, Amelia “Millie” Martin.
Gerald was an avid hunter, fisherman and cook. Gerald was one of a kind, in that he was loved by a multitude of friends from all around the United States. Above all, Gerald loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and adored his great granddaughter. Gerald was nothing short of a family man, gentleman and a hero.
Graveside service with Military Honors will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2020, at Green Hill Cemetery with Rev. Joe Chambers officiating. A come and go viewing following COVID-19 protocol will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Wilmar Baptist Church.
