Lewis Dale Orrell, 66, of Monticello passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, at his home in Monticello, surrounded by his family and friends, after a hard-fought battle with Leukemia. He was born Dec. 10, 1953 in Dermott to Jimmy and Sug Orrell. He was a 1972 Monticello High School graduate. He married his wife of 46 years, Peggie Turpin, on Jan. 5, 1974. Lewis was of the Baptist faith and was ordained as a Deacon at Collins Baptist Church, where he also served as the song leader and Sunday school teacher. Lewis had many careers over the course of his lifetime, but his one true love was as a cutting horse trainer. He began riding horses early in life and the passion never left him. He won many cutting horse competitions and was the National High School Rodeo Champion in 1969. He was a mentor to many, leaving a legacy wherever he went. He was known for his dancing skills, quick wit and the way he made every person he met feel special and left them knowing they had a friend for life. He is preceded in death by his father, Jimmy E Orrell, of Monticello; father-in-law, Glen Turpin, of Harrisburg, Ark.; and one brother-in-law, Bobbie Turpin, of Monticello.
