Carlene Beatrice Uptigrove, age 85 of Lancaster, CA, passed away Thursday, December 31, 2020, at St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa, OK. She was born May 26, 1935, in Ft. Smith, AR to the late Carl Leonard Furr, Sr. and Lela Beatrice Davis Furr.
She was a retired bookkeeper and wonderful mother and was of the Apostolic/Pentecostal faith. Mrs. Carlene enjoyed sewing and crocheting, and crafting in general. She was a member of the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church in Lancaster, CA where her son-in-law, Rick Mayes pastors. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were the delight of her life. Mostly though, she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ and first gave her life to him at the age of 16.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, James Clifton Uptigrove; a son, Charley Eugene Uptigrove; grandparents, John Wilbur and Hattie Belle Nix-Furr; and brothers, Blondine Ree, Jr., Robert Furr and Carl Leonard Furr, Jr.
Survivors include her brothers, Curtis Furr of Bakersfield, CA and Dale Furr and wife Lupe of Bakersfield, CA; sister-in-law, Hazel Ree of Broken Arrow, OK; sons, Carl Uptigrove and wife Paulette of Booneville, AR and Clifton Uptigrove and wife Debra of Bakersfield, CA; daughters, Charlene Mayes and husband Rick of Lancaster, CA and Carol Hinton and husband Steven of Lancaster, CA; fifteen grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; as well as many friends and loved ones she considered to be as close as family.
Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2021, at Prairie Grove Cemetery in Drew County, AR. There will be a come-and-go viewing Thursday, January 7, 2021, at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Covid-19 guidelines will be followed. Online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.
