Herring Wesley Guthrie (H. W.) died January 13, 2021, in Fayetteville, at the age of 85. He was born in Drew County, AR, November 11, 1935, to Ivan and Edna Guthrie. Besides his parents, others preceding him in death were his wife of over 50 years, Ida Mae Forrest Guthrie, a brother, Thomas Guthrie, and a sister, Marlene Guthrie.
Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Geraldine and Jim Woodell of Searcy; nephews: Tom Guthrie (who, with his wife, Katie, cared for H. W. in their home so wonderfully for the past two years in Winslow, AR), Jimmy Woodell (Leslie) of Searcy, and Wes Woodell (Airiel) of Illinois; nieces: Connie Albright (John) of England, Diane Davis (Rick) of Alabama, Ginger Thompson of Tennessee, and Alicia Wingfield of Maumelle, and their respective families.
H. W. was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church. He loved hunting, fishing, cowboy movies, and animals of any kind. Raised partially on a farm, H. W. had picked cotton, taken care of livestock and chickens. When newly married, he worked at one of the soft drink bottling plants in Little Rock. In later years he was a highway department and mill employee, pipe-line worker, licensed plumber, and laid tile for his nephew, Tom.
No funeral service is planned, per H. W.’s request. A private graveside service will take place later in Monticello.
