Ted Hammett was born in Tubingen, Germany, on March 12, 1951, where he was adopted at the age of five by his parents, Greig and Elby (Crosby) Hammett from Ruston, Louisiana. He died at his home in Monticello, Arkansas, on Monday, March 29, 2021, after battling cancer for a short time.

Ted is survived by his wife of forty-one years, Becky (Renner) Hammett; his children, Brittney Schrick (Zach) of Conway, Arkansas, and Brett Hammett of Vancouver, Washington; and his granddaughters, Abbey, Lily, and Sadie Schrick of Conway, Arkansas.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Susan (Hammett) Fowler.

He was a Christian, active in the United Methodist Church for many years. Ted attended Louisiana Tech University, in Ruston, Louisiana, where he was a member of ROTC and became a pilot. There, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1974, after which he served in the United States Air Force. Following his stint serving his country, Ted started his professional accounting career working in the oil and gas industry in Houston, Texas. In 1984, Ted completed his Master of Science degree in Accounting at Sam Houston State University, in Huntsville, Texas; and in 1985 he became a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of Texas. In 1987, Ted and his family relocated to Ruston, Louisiana. He returned to Louisiana Tech University to serve in the position of Research Contracts Administrator while he pursued his Doctor of Business Administration degree in Accounting, which he completed in 1994.

His first faculty position was at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma, from 1994 to 2000. In the fall of 2000, Ted began teaching accounting at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM). At the time of his death, Ted was an Associate Professor of Accounting at UAM. After his family, Ted’s passions were teaching his “kids” accounting and collecting die cast model cars for display in his office. He enjoyed being a faculty sponsor for Institute of Managerial Accountants (IMA) student organization at UAM, as well as participating in the organization’s service projects and social events. Ted also loved to provide parade transportation for pageant queens by driving his convertible in area events. Ted was a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Monticello, where he served as Treasurer for many years.

The family wishes to thank Ted’s colleagues and friends for their steadfast kindness and support during his illness. Heartfelt thanks are also extended to his excellent caregivers from Arkansas Hospice. Ted has donated his body for use in medical research.
