Mary Nell Burns Mitchell, age 91 of Monticello, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Southeast Rehab Hospital in Lake Village, AR. She was born February 12, 1930, in Marietta, MS to the late William Alec Burns and Florence Harris Burns.
She was the widow of Wiley M. Mitchell whom she married October 18, 1954 and was a member of the Catholic Church. Mary was a past state regent for the Catholic Daughters of American Court Victory #564 and past president of St. Joseph Alter Society of Pine Bluff. Her hobbies included yard work, growing flowers, knitting, crocheting where she made many tablecloths and doilies over the years. She was one that had a green thumb.
Mary graduated from Marietta High School in 1949 and became a registered nurse at Doster Hospital in Columbia, MS in 1952 before becoming a Registered Nurse Anesthetist at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, IL in September of 1954. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, John Matthew Mitchell in September of 2001; brothers, Grafton, W.R., A.D. and Horace Burns; and a sister, Vera Mae Slack.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Gill) Mitchell of Oxford, MS, Patricia Mitchell of Monticello and Malachi (Pam) of Jonesville, VA; three grandchildren, Allison Mitchell, David Mitchell and Katy Le Doux; and four great grandchildren, Brittany Ryan, Eva Kate, Eleanor Grace, and Alice Rose Mitchell.
Rosary will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021, at St. Marks Catholic Church in Monticello with a Mass following at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pine Bluff, AR. Online guestbook at www.stephensondearman.com.
