Sylvia Newell Hill
August 11, 1921 - August 17, 2021

Sylvia Newell Hill, 100, of Hot Springs, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021. She was born August 11, 1921 in Sheerness, Kent, England to the late William Newell and Alice Joyce Newell

As a child and young woman, Sylvia lived with her family in England, Wales, Malta, and India due to her father being in the Royal Air Force. She married Clayton Hill on Jan 4, 1944 in Romford, England and moved to the states in 1947, settling in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
She was an avid reader belonging to several book clubs through the years. Because of her reading and travels, Sylvia had a vast knowledge and understanding of the world. She loved the TV show Jeopardy and given the chance, would have been an excellent competitor. She always talked lovingly about her native country and stayed close to her English family through visits by ship, plane, letters, and phone. She was a competitive board game player and loved tending to her plants and garden. Above all else, she loved her family and her family loved, respected, and adored her. Her greetings and goodbyes were always met with hugs and kisses and an "I love you." She was the role model for goodness. She peacefully left us a week after her century birthday for a happy reunion with her heavenly loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clayton Hill; their daughter Marion Hill McCormick; her grandson Stephen McCormick; her granddaughter Amy Stills, her great grandson Johnathan McCormick; her sons-in-law Presley Jarrett and Harold McCormick; her sisters Pauline Charlesworth and Jean Fitch; her brothers Jeff, Allen, and John Newell.

Survivors include daughter Margaret Jarrett; son Kenneth Hill and his wife Linda; grandson Richard Jarrett (Adam); granddaughter Theresa Jarrett House (Jon); great granddaughters Stephanie, Ashley and Victoria; great great granddaughters Ryleigh and Karleigh; and a number of much loved nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Union Ridge Cemetery in Monticello. She was of Anglican faith. Family has asked in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to one’s favorite charity.
