James Richard Jarrett, Sr., age 81 of Monticello, went to his Heavenly home on Sunday, November 7, 2021, surrounded by his loving wife and children at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born March 31, 1940, to the late Ezra Earl Jarrett, Sr., and Margaret Bush Jarrett. James and his family moved to Monticello in 1963. He managed Sunflower Food Stores until 1980 when he transferred to manager of Piggly Wiggly stores around SEARK. He volunteered with the Drew County Literacy Council after his retirement. James was a Christian in faith. James was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Jackie Lee Jarrett, Sr., Tommy Russell Jarrett, and John William Jarrett; three sisters, Baby Margaret Jarrett, Betty Jarrett Hartness, and Janice Ruth Jarrett Barlow; brother-in-law, Joe Barlow; and sister-in-law Lawanda Jarrett. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Kendrick Jarrett, whom he married in 1960; two sons, James Richard “Jay” Jarrett, Jr. of Monticello and Gregory Allen Jarrett and wife Michelle of Monticello; one daughter, Lea Ann Ashcraft and husband Billy of Dermott; one brother, Ezra Earl “Sonny” Jarrett, Jr.; one sister, Linda Jarrett Johnson and husband Phil; one sister-in-law, Ann Hicks Jarrett; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 9, 2021, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial following in Tillar Cemetery.
