Lucius Juan Simpson, age 80 of Monticello, Arkansas passed away February 4, 2022. He was born August 22, 1941, to the late Martha Simpson and Arceola Simpson, Sr. in Monticello, Arkansas. He attended Drew High School. He was a very hard worker. He took great care of his family and friends. For over 40 years until retirement, he was one of the few African Americans who owned a logging business in Southeast Arkansas. In his prime, he was one of the top loggers and earned many awards and accolades in the logging industry. He loved watching westerns, spending time with family, and hanging out with friends. He was a great storyteller and he absolutely loved baseball. His favorite team was Los Angeles Dodgers. He loved the game so much he began and sponsored a travelling softball team in his community of Coleman, Arkansas. Juan is preceded in death by both of his parents Arceola Simpson Sr. and Martha Simpson; three brothers, Johnny Simpson, Proma Lee Simpson, Arceola “AC” Simpson, Jr.; former wife, Pearlene Dodds; two sisters in laws, Mary Simpson and Mae Lois Dodds; two brother in laws, John T. Jones and Neander Rowlett; and a niece, Nicole Miller-Cook. He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Kassonya Simpson, Felicia Simpson-Griddine (Sedrick) of Monticello, AR; two sons, Fernando Simpson and Felix Simpson (Andrea) of Monticello, AR; five sisters, Carrie Collins of Detriot, MI, Mae Ruth Jones, Linda Kaye Simpson, Mae Lee Miller (Jerry), and Onnie Simpson all of Monticello, AR; four brother, Charles Simpson of Bensenville, IL, David Simpson (Marilyn) of Taylor, MI, Sammy Simpson Sr., and Eugene Simpson (Dale) all of Monticello, AR; eleven grandchildren, Trammell Grant of Morrilton, AR, KaLene Simpson (Ky) of Tampa, FL, Sedre’Auna Griddine of Dallas, TX, Tyler Simpson of Tallahassee, FL, Kaitlin Simpson of Mabelvale, AR, Taurus Simpson of Conway, AR, Audrea Simpson, Adruna Simpson, Chasity Simpson, Antorious Simpson and Terica Wormley all of Monticello, AR; three sister in laws, Ora Rowlett, Sarah Everett (Wade), and Lillie Simpson all of Monticello, AR; 17 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends who loved and miss him dearly. Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the Stephenson-Dearman Chapel in Monticello, AR.
