March 30, 1939 - February 8, 2022

James “Dink” Derwood Barnett, age 82, of the Greenhill community, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at his home. He was born March 30, 1939, in Drew County, to the late William Mike (Bill) Barnett and Julia Mary Webb Barnett.
He was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Kacie “Rie” Gage; one brother, Earl Barnett; and one sister, Pat Kellum, all of Monticello, Arkansas.
Survivors included his loving wife of 60 years, Carol Vance Barnett; a daughter, Kris Johns, of Greenhill; two sons and their spouses, Stoney and Brenda Barnett, of Kingsland, AR and Shane and Tina Barnett of the Lone Prairie Community; two sisters, Betty Carter of Wilmar, and Jan Tiner of Monticello, AR; He had nine grandchildren, Jake and Erica Barnett, Slade Reed, Jeremy Barnett, Frankie Tillman, Brady and Kayla Barnett, Eddie Barnett, and Jace Barnett; as well as a multitude of great-grandchildren.
He reluctantly retired in 2021 from his chosen profession that he loved dearly, farming. He is known all over South Arkansas for his delicious “Bradley” tomatoes and sweet watermelons. In his younger years, he served in the Army as a paratrooper, in the 82nd Airborne. He also worked construction on many shutdowns throughout his life. He was one of Jehovah’s witnesses. Dink was a wonderful husband, father, pop, brother, uncle, and cousin. He was also a loyal friend to many. His famous quote “Po Baby” will be missed by all his loved ones. Rest in Peace, our Sam Elliot.
Graveside services will be Thursday, February 10, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in Green Hill Cemetery, in the Green Hill Community.
